Hello! My name is Maximus Machado. I am a designer based in NYC. My passion is bringing powerful (and usually pretty dark) worlds and characters to life. My style is Whimsical, Edgy, and Raw. I prioritize visual storytelling in my work. I am a big believer that what you are seeing drives and shapes the story and worlds we create as artists.

I was the Props Designer on this production. It was a heavy sourcing show for me, and I got to do a lot of historical research. I gained a lot of prop weapon experience as well. This show taught me a lot about leadership and time management.

TheWeekAfter
This was a huge project to tackle as both the costume designer and the production designer. In less than 10 days, we made what was supposed to be a 30-minute short film but turned into a 2-hour feature film. I struggled, and I conquered this beast of a shoot. I learned my limits and how to be a good friend, leader, and mentor to my team. When the director said "Hey can we-" I ran and did whatever it was she needed.
These ^ are my preliminary mood boards. The director, Amanda Fuller, and I were very on the same page and had wonderful collaboration through the entire process. Scenic/world mood boards are first and then character/costume boards. A lot of my process takes place in fittings and doing work in the room but the research is also crucial for me to start and communicate with my director.
Alice By Heart

This was my first ever film. I had a fantabulous mentor (shoutout Lisa!) who helped me through this process. I designed 8 distinct characters and was my own wardrobe team as well. This shoot opened my eyes to a whole new world of designing with frame and lens in mind.

My mood boards. I had a very distinct idea about what to do with these characters from the start. You can watch the film below!
This was a period piece about an abortion, and the main character dealing with the pregnancy and abortion decision. At the end, there is a raw chicken that was filled with fake blood. The props designer (Mak Kemper) and I worked together to find a mixture that would wash out of vintage clothing. A lot of this show was 'shopped' from our own closets. I used a few dresses from my grandma that were real vintage 60's garments.
